US strikes Iranian military facility after missiles fired toward Kuwait and Bahrain

The US military has said that Iranian missiles fired toward Kuwait and Bahrain either failed to reach their targets or were intercepted. It also said the United States carried out strikes on an Iranian facility in response. According to the US Central Command, the strikes targeted an Iranian military ground control station on Qeshm Island near the Strait of Hormuz. The island is also home to a desalination plant.

The US military said two missiles aimed at Kuwait broke apart while en route, while missiles directed at Bahrain were intercepted by US and Bahraini forces.

According to local media reports, the developments came after Iran stopped communicating with mediators regarding an extension of the ceasefire. However, US President Donald Trump disputed the claim and said that talks were continuing.

In another development, the US military said it fired a missile to stop an oil tanker attempting to reach an Iranian port in violation of the American blockade. It said this was the seventh vessel intercepted while trying to breach the blockade.
