The Bangladesh Government is committed to ensuring a safe, peaceful and festive environment for the celebration of Durga Puja 2026 across the country, Religious Affairs Minister Mohammad Shamim Kaiser has said.

 

The Minister made the remarks at an inter-ministerial preparatory meeting to review arrangements for Durga Puja 2026 yesterday. Security has also been stepped up across the country to ensure that the upcoming Durga Puja is celebrated in a peaceful, festive and secure atmosphere.

 

The State Minister said the government is committed to ensuring the safe and festive celebration of Durga Puja, described as the main religious festival of the country’s Hindu community. He directed relevant authorities to ensure the smooth distribution of grants from the Puja Welfare Trust to puja committees across the country.

 

He also stressed enhanced vigilance by local administrations and law enforcement agencies in view of the increase in the number of puja mandaps. The State Minister called for maintaining social and religious harmony and urged people to respect traditional practices, including maintaining silence during the Azan and prayers.

 

He directed intelligence and law enforcement agencies to take immediate legal action against those spreading rumours through old or edited content on social media and called for impartial investigations into any untoward incidents. Representatives of various ministries, security agencies and Hindu, Buddhist and Christian organisations attended the meeting.
