HM Amit Shah highlights India’s achievements in renewable energy and forest cover growth on World Environment Day

Union Ministers, including Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, extended greetings to everyone on World Environment Day.

In a social media post, Mr Shah said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi made environmental protection a global movement by building the world’s third-largest renewable energy capacity, the National Green Hydrogen Mission and powering millions of homes with solar power. He noted that today, India leads the world as one of the top three nations in annual forest cover growth. Mr Shah said that environmental protection is a collective responsibility of all and to follow that, the Central Armed Police Forces planted over 7.5 crore saplings in six years.

The Defence Minister said that the country has made remarkable strides in environmental conservation, climate action, sustainable development, and the rapid expansion of renewable energy. He underlined that from increasing green cover and restoring ecosystems to spearheading global initiatives, India has set a benchmark for balancing economic growth with environmental sustainability.

Mr Singh added that the success of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has transformed environmental protection into a people’s movement, inspiring millions to contribute to a greener and more sustainable future. Mr Chouhan urged everyone to plant trees to keep the earth safe for future generations.
