Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C.Joseph Vijay today announced that a 1600 MW new super critical Thermal power station would be set up at Tuticorin in a public private partnership model at a cost of 20 thousand 800 Crore rupees.

In a suo moto statement in the Assembly today, he said that keeping in view the rising demand for power without disruption, the Government has decided to improve the efficiency in power distribution. He said that the State Power Department will be revamped thoroughly with a multi crore infrastructure investment consisting of semiconductors, new power substations and replacing of old systems.

The Chief Minister said that 33 thousand 66 Crore rupees has been earmarked for the Tamil Nādu Transmission Improvement scheme, to set up 196 new sub-stations and lay 15 thousand km power lines. The Chief Minister also told that 36 new 33/11 KV sub stations, new circuit breakers, pillar boxes, Cables will be replaced at a cost of 1762 Crore rupees.
