The Southwest Monsoon has set in over Keralam today. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall over Keralam and Karnataka, and heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu during the next seven days. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely over Mahe, Puducherry and Karaikal tomorrow. The IMD has predicted heavy rainfall over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Konkan, Goa, Lakshadweep, Madhya Maharashtra, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Telangana, Uttarakhand and the Northeastern states during the next two days.
According to the weather agency, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, and Jammu and Kashmir are likely to experience thunderstorms and hailstorms till Saturday. Thunder Squalls with wind speeds reaching 50 to 60 kilometres per hour are expected over Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, East Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh. Thunderstorms and lightning are also likely over Bihar, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Jharkhand and West Rajasthan tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the Delhi-National Capital Region today witnessed heavy rainfall bringing relief from warm and humid conditions. IMD also predicted very light and light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning tonight. According to the IMD, the maximum temperature in Delhi is expected to be around 37 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to hover near 25 degrees Celsius tomorrow.
