Punjab Governor and Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh, Gulab Chand Kataria, encouraged mothers to lead the fight against drug abuse in Punjab. He said the strong emotional bond between a mother and her child makes her the most effective force in encouraging her wards to stay away from social evils and Drugs. He also urged educational institutions, parents, religious organizations and society to work together to protect the younger generation from this menace.
Addressing a workshop on ‘Mothers Against Drugs’, organised by the Punjab LIT Foundation and the Chandigarh Department of Education at Chandigarh, today, the Governor appreciated the efforts of the foundation’s Co-founder, Khushwant Singh for conceptualising this campaign. Khushwant Singh said that the campaign was initially focused on mothers of students studying in Class VIII and above. However, after extensive consultations with experts, it was decided to shift the focus to mothers of children studying in Class III onwards so that preventive awareness begins well before children become vulnerable to negative influences.
