India’s first private orbital rocket, Vikram-1, developed by Hyderabad-based Skyroot Aerospace, is all set for its maiden test flight today as part of ‘Mission Aagaman’. The lift-off is scheduled for 11.30 am Indian Standard Time from the first launchpad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh.
The launch will mark the first flight of an orbital-class rocket fully designed and developed by an Indian private company from domestic soil. Vikram-1 is named in honour of the father of the Indian space programme, Dr Vikram Sarabhai.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the mission as a historic new chapter in India’s space journey. He noted that the four-stage rocket has been designed to provide rapid and on-demand launch services. In a social media post, the Prime Minister said the mission reflects the talent, determination and entrepreneurial spirit of the country’s youth, while showcasing how India’s space sector reforms are unlocking new opportunities for innovation and enterprise.
Mr Modi extended his best wishes to the entire Skyroot Aerospace team for a successful launch. He also wished that Vikram-1 soars high, creates history and inspires a new generation of innovators.
The Prime Minister further urged citizens, especially the youth, to follow this historic mission and join in wishing Team Skyroot success by using the hashtag #IndiaWithVikram1.
