The National Human Rights Commission has issued notices to the Director General of Police, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh and the District Magistrate, Dhenkanal over reported trafficking, selling and sexual assault of a tribal girl from Odisha in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. Taking suo motu cognizance of media reports, the commission has sought a detailed report within two weeks.

Reportedly, the victim along with three other girls was trafficked to Uttar Pradesh under the guise of a job offer. The Media report says that the victim managed to escape her perpetrators and recorded her statement before Jhansi police but no further action was taken except being provided with a train ticket back to Odisha. Later the Odisha Police recorded her statement.
