India and Maldives today reaffirmed their commitment to expediting the signing of the Bilateral Investment Treaty and the proposed Free Trade Agreement. In a social media post, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said that he held discussions with the Maldives’ Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, in New Delhi. Mr. Goyal added that the agreements will further strengthen cooperation in tourism, startups, digital payments, MSMEs, and trade to unlock new opportunities for both countries. India and Maldives are celebrating 60 years of diplomatic relations this year.
