The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for moderate rain and thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of up to 40-50 kilometres per hour over Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha today. The IMD said the heatwave prevailing over eastern and south peninsular regions of the country will abate from today. As the region is expected to witness a wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms for the next few days. A fresh spell of heatwave is also expected over Rajasthan and west Madhya Pradesh for the next two days.
On hot and humid weather, the IMD said, these conditions are very likely to prevail over Gujarat for the next 5 days and over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe and Coastal Karnataka till today. The IMD said no significant change is likely in maximum temperatures over most parts of Northwest India except West Rajasthan, where the temperature will rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius during the next 3 days.
