The death toll from the double earthquake that struck Venezuela on June 24 has risen to 3,685. The quakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 were the strongest to hit Venezuela in more than a century. The death toll has been steadily rising in recent weeks, with 16,740 people currently estimated to be injured. Thousands of people have previously been reported missing after the disaster, but authorities in the country did not update that figure.
The earthquakes damaged Simón Bolívar International Airport outside the capital, Caracas, affecting air traffic to and from the country. Interim President Delcy Rodríguez said that commercial air traffic would be reopened as soon as possible using an alternative runway.
