Four patients lost their lives, and more than twenty others were injured in a fire that broke out in the early hours of today at a private hospital in Muzaffarpur, Bihar. According to reports, the blaze originated in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, and rapidly spread throughout the building. Fire brigade personnel managed to bring the fire under control after extensive efforts.
Senior Superintendent of Police Kantesh Mishra said that preliminary investigations indicate a short circuit may have triggered the fire. He added that a detailed probe is currently underway.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary expressed deep grief over the tragedy and announced an ex gratia compensation of four lakh rupees each for the next of kin of the deceased.
Health Minister Nishant also conveyed his condolences and said that a high-level inquiry would be conducted into the incident. He assured that strict action would be taken against those found responsible.
