The West Bengal Government’s Department of Information and Cultural Affairs is setting up a dedicated School of Magic and a historical museum to preserve and promote the state’s rich tradition of magic and illusion arts.
An advisory committee has been constituted for the project, with renowned magician P. C. Sorcar Junior as its chief adviser. Several other eminent magicians will also be part of the committee.
The first meeting of the committee was held at Nandan in Kolkata yesterday in the presence of State Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Purnima Chakraborty and Department Secretary Saumitra Mohan. P. C. Sorcar Junior also attended the meeting. The proposed institution aims to provide a platform for research, training and the promotion of magic and performing arts, while preserving Bengal’s rich legacy of magic and illusion.
