West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has said, the state government is taking steps to completely prohibit forced religious conversions in the state and categorically made it clear that no subversive and anti-national activities will be tolerated in this land.
Speaking at a programme in Kolkata today to mark the birth centenary of former Vishwa Hindu Parishad president and Ram Temple movement leader Ashok Singhal, Mr Adhikari alleged that anti-national forces are active across the country.
He alleged that the previous state government had repeatedly disrespected Hindu culture and that Hindus had faced attacks in different parts of the state.
The Chief Minister claimed that the people of the state had rejected the previous government because of such policies. He said while the former government had allegedly sought to divide Hindu society along caste lines, the present government was committed to uniting people.
VHP Eastern Region secretary Amiya Sarkar and Swami Nirgunananda Maharaj were among those who addressed the programme.
