The West Bengal Government has suspended five police officials, including an IPS officer, for the alleged misuse of power, violation of the police code, and actions that allegedly led to the harassment of public.

 

Announcing the decision in the Assembly, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said that Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Moyajjem Hossain has been suspended and an FIR has been ordered against him in connection with the death of an innocent man linked to an incident in which a teenage girl was allegedly tortured and killed.

 

Sub-Inspector Sadhan Das and the then Inspector-in-Charge of Burtolla Police Station, Subarno Dutta Choudhary, have also been suspended for their alleged involvement in the harassment of former IPS officer Pankaj Dutta, who has since passed away.

 

Inspector Amarendra Biswas has been suspended and a departmental inquiry has been ordered against him for his alleged involvement in a lathi charge during the Jagatdhatri Puja idol immersion procession in Krishnanagar town of Nadia district.

 

The then Superintendent of Police of Sundarban, Koteshwar Rao, has also been suspended for his alleged involvement in the alleged desecration of an idol of Goddess Kali at Kakdwip in South 24 Parganas district last year.
