Violence Erupts in UK’s Leeds as rioters torch bus; Overturn Police Car

In United Kingdom, unrest erupted in a neighbourhood in Leeds city last evening as hundreds of residents clashed with law enforcement and hurled rocks and bricks at police vehicles. A bus was set on fire and a police car came under attack, with its windows smashed and the vehicle being overturned.

However, the West Yorkshire Police today said no injuries have been reported so far. It said, a large number of public order officers have been deployed to the location in what remains an ongoing incident. Local Media reported that the unrest began when police responded to a disturbance call after social services removed four children from a family on Luxor Street. Authorities reported that officers and agency workers had safely removed the children before the violence escalated throughout the evening.

Expressing her concern about the incident in a social media post on ‘X’ this morning, UK Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said, she is appalled at the shocking scenes and attacks on police vehicles and public transport in Leeds last night. She said, disorder of this nature has no place in their society.
