Uttar Pradesh: Counting for 9 assembly seats to be held amidst tight security on Nov 23

In Uttar Pradesh, counting for the 9 assembly seats will be held amidst tight security tomorrow, where by-elections were held on 20th November. These assembly seats are Katehari, Karhal, Meerapur, Kundarki, Phulpur, Sisamau, Ghaziabad, Majhawan, and Khair. The fate of 90 candidates, including 11 women candidates, will be decided tomorrow.

Heavy security arrangements, including the deployment of paramilitary forces, are in place at the counting stations, keeping in mind the scuffle between political workers on the day of polling. The Chief Electoral Officer of Uttar Pradesh, Navdeep Rinwa, said that a minimum of 20 rounds of counting will be held for the Sisamau seat in Kanpur district, while a maximum of 32 rounds of counting will be held for the Kundarki, Majhwan, Karhal, and Phulpur assembly seats. He said that counting will begin at 8:00 a.m., with postal ballots counted first, and votes from EVMs will be counted around 8:30 a.m. Out of these nine seats, four were held by the Samajwadi Party, three by the Bharatiya Janata Party, and one each by the Nishad Party and the Rashtriya Lok Dal.
