Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal has emphasised the need for adopting environmental friendly technology in the construction sector. Speaking at the function organised on the 172nd Foundation Day of the Central Public Works Department in New Delhi, the Minister stressed that while constructing any building or structure, the durability and strength should not be compromised. Mr Manohar Lal noted that as India’s infrastructure aspirations continue to grow, CPWD has an even greater responsibility to lead with innovation, adopt sustainable construction practices and deliver projects that uphold the highest standards of quality, durability and structural integrity.
The Union Minister also emphasised moving forward with the spirit of SANKALP – Speed, Accessibility, Nek Niyat, Kartavya Nishtha, Adoption of Technology, Lokhit and Pardarshita for creating citizen-centric infrastructure. He called upon the officers and staff of the CPWD to work with full honesty and morality to enhance the credibility of the organisation.
On the occasion, the Union Minister also virtually laid the foundation stone of the National Council for Public Works Building at Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh.
In his address, Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Srinivas Katikithala, appreciated the CPWD’s significant contribution to the creation of quality public infrastructure across the country. He highlighted that CPWD has evolved into a modern, technology-driven organisation capable of executing complex and iconic projects. He further emphasised that CPWD should continue to lead the adoption of best engineering practices, digital technologies, sustainable construction methods and efficient project management systems.
Director General, CPWD Satinder Pal Singh reiterated CPWD’s commitment to delivering high-quality public infrastructure through innovation and emphasised the timely execution of projects. He said that capacity-building and skill development remain key priorities of the Department.
