Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy has said that Greater Hyderabad cannot develop through slogans alone. He said it needs full coordination among officials and scientific plans based on people’s needs.
Speaking to the media after chairing the Hyderabad District DISHA Committee meeting at CSIR-IICT, Tarnaka, he said the city should be planned as one unit, even though district and corporation boundaries differ. He asked the collectors of Hyderabad and Medchal-Malkajgiri, the GHMC and the three municipal commissioners in the Cyberabad area to work together. He will ask the Chief Secretary to arrange frequent joint reviews.
The minister said 70 to 80 percent of Telangana’s revenue comes from Hyderabad and nearby districts. Yet GHMC and the Water Board are short of funds. He told officials to prepare detailed proposals to raise the city’s budget instead of relying on routine allocations.
Big projects like Metro and Musi beautification are going on, he said. But the government must give top priority to daily civic problems like road repairs, drinking water, drain leaks, separate drains for sewage and rainwater, and street lights. Delayed bill payments must end so contractors come forward to work, he added. Kishan Reddy urged officials to transform government schools and anganwadi centres in slums. He asked state officials to send proper DPRs for central schemes. He promised to get funds sanctioned for Hyderabad and Telangana.
Earlier, the meeting reviewed the Fatehnagar railway bridge, Ranigunj road widening, housing (480 houses per constituency), waste plants, shifting Bolakpur leather units, 39 STPs, and SHG loans.
