Union Home Minister Amit Shah has reiterated that when the BJP government assumes power in Punjab, it will work with full commitment to make the state safe and free from drugs and gangsters. In a social media post, Mr Shah said that the aim is to dismantle the drug trade, secure the future of the youth, take stern action against criminals, and establish the rule of law where no citizen is forced to live under the shadow of fear.
He alleged that the drug trade is flourishing in Punjab, the threat of organised crime is escalating, and the safety of those who speak out against the drug menace comes under question. Mr Shah said that today, Punjab is grappling with the growing menace of drug abuse, gangsterism, and organised crime. Mr Shah questioned the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government as to who will take responsibility for the safety of the people.
He also referred to two incidents where a father consumed poison under pressure in Dirba and the killing of Parvinder Singh Jhota in Mansa. He said these incidents have raised serious questions about the state of law and order in Punjab. Parvinder’s father has levelled grave allegations against the AAP government and its MLA. Mr Shah said that the Union Home Ministry will seek an explanation from the Punjab government regarding these two incidents. Referring to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Mr Shah said the people of Punjab do not need mere announcements, as they demand answers and tangible results. Mr Shah emphasised for a decisive strike against drug networks and an impartial investigation into any political patronage that criminals might be receiving.
