The UN has said, it would want that a full investigation is done into the killing of a US-Turkish woman in the West Bank during a protest yesterday. The spokesman for the UN Secretary General, Stéphane Dujarric said, people should be held accountable asserting that civilians must be protected at all times.
An American activist, Aysenur Ezgi Eygi was killed after she was hit by a bullet in head while participating in a protest in the town of Beita in West Bank’s Nablus district. Her family said in a statement that video showed she was killed by a bullet from an Israeli military shooter and called for the US to investigate.
The US has also urged Israel to investigate the incident. Spokesman for the White House’s National Security Council, Sean Savett said, Washington was deeply disturbed by the tragic death of an American citizen. He added that US has reached out to the government of Israel to ask for more information and request an investigation into the incident.
According to local media reports, Israel’s military said it was looking into reports that a foreign national was killed as a result of shots fired in the area.
