UAE orders to release 956 inmates from correctional and rehabilitation centres ahead of Eid Al Adha

In the United Arab Emirates, President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered the release of 956 inmates from correctional and rehabilitation centres ahead of Eid Al Adha. The President also directed authorities to settle all financial obligations and court-imposed fines related to their sentences. The humanitarian gesture, announced ahead of the Festival of Sacrifice, aims to promote social stability, strengthen family bonds and provide eligible prisoners an opportunity to rebuild their lives and reintegrate into society.

Similar clemency measures have been announced across several Emirates. Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum ordered the release of 836 prisoners of various nationalities.

In Ras Al Khaimah, 443 inmates were pardoned, while Ajman announced the release of 230 prisoners and Sharjah 227 inmates. In Fujairah, 104 prisoners demonstrating good conduct were granted pardon. Authorities in Umm Al Quwain also approved the release of a number of inmates ahead of the holiday.

Officials said the pardons reflect the UAE leadership’s commitment to humanitarian values, compassion and family cohesion during important religious occasions. Public prosecution departments and police authorities have begun completing legal procedures to ensure the released inmates can reunite with their families before Eid celebrations commence.

Eid Al Adha is one of the most significant festivals in the Islamic calendar and coincides with the annual Hajj pilgrimage.
