Teachers’ Day was celebrated across Tripura today to mark the birth anniversary of former President and eminent educationist Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
The state-level programme was held at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala, organised by the Directorate of School Education. Tripura Higher Education Minister Kishore Barman, Higher Education Director Animesh Debbarma, School Education Director Samit Ray Chowdhury, Director of the Department for Development of Kokborok and Other Minority Languages Anand hari Jamatia, and SCERT Director Lalnunemi Darlong paid floral tributes to Dr. Radhakrishnan.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Barman highlighted the vital role of teachers in nation-building. He called for nurturing a generation capable of contributing to the vision of a developed Tripura and developed India by 2047. He stressed developing students as job creators rather than merely job seekers, while encouraging technological awareness, patriotism, humanitarian values and respect for women.
He also urged students to oppose drug abuse and child marriage and remain connected with the country’s history and culture. School Education Director Samit Ray Chowdhury stressed further reducing the school dropout rate. An exhibition was also inaugurated at the venue to mark Teachers’ Day.
