The 67th convention of Travel Agents Association of India is underway in Colombo with over 650 delegates including media attending the event. The convention featured two days of business sessions which had discussions on India's tourism vision for 2047, the rise of experiential travel, the growing significance of MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions), and the ever-expanding digital opportunities in the travel industry. A Buyer-Seller meet was held providing a platform for networking, updates on industry trends, promotion, and business opportunities.
The convention serves as a catalyst for bilateral tourism growth and strengthens ties between the two nations.
Earlier on 7th July 2023, Friday, High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka Gopal Baglay addressed the convention and said that tourism, is the vehicle that promotes people-to-people ties. The High Commissioner laid stress on the role of religion in promoting tourism and gave examples of Buddhist and Ramayana Circuits in India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal. Mr. Baglay informed the Indian travel congress on the efforts to boost tourism undertaken by the two countries including the resumption of flight connectivity to Jaffna as well as the work towards ferry services between Nagapattinam and Jaffna.
