The Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls begins in Odisha today. The month-long exercise, being conducted by the Election Commission of India, will continue till 28th June and cover over 3.33 crore voters across the state.
The revision aims to update the electoral roll by removing duplicate, deceased and ineligible entries, while including all eligible voters. More than 45,000 Booth Level Officers have been deployed for door-to-door verification and distribution of forms.
Voters are required to verify their details, fill out the forms and return them to the officials. Those unavailable during home visits can submit the forms at their designated polling booths, where officials will be available daily from 3 PM to 5 PM.
The draft electoral roll will be published on 5th July, followed by a month-long period for claims and objections. The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on 6th September.
In view of the ongoing heatwave, the Chief Electoral Officer of Odisha has directed that field verification be conducted only during morning and evening hours, with no outdoor work between noon and 3 PM.
