Rescue and relief operations intensified in flood-hit Odisha districts

In Odisha, rescue and relief operations have intensified in the flood-hit districts of Ganjam and Gajapati following torrential rainfall triggered by Cyclone Arnab.

Four helicopters of the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard are being deployed to evacuate stranded people and airdrop food packets at 21 identified locations in Ganjam district. Rescue teams are also using boats to distribute cooked food in inaccessible areas. Thousands of people have been affected in Ganjam and Gajapati districts, where rising waters of the Rushikulya and Bansadhara rivers have inundated several villages.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that a fresh low-pressure area over the South Andaman Sea is likely to intensify into a depression and move towards the Andhra Pradesh coast, bringing more rainfall to parts of Odisha.
