Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for fuel conservation is in the national interest, asserting that reduced consumption of imported commodities like oil and gold would strengthen the country’s economy and foreign exchange reserves. Speaking to the media after visiting the family of Sunil Jaglan at Bibipur village in Haryana’s Jind district, Mr. Khattar said he had also reduced the number of vehicles in his official convoy to save fuel.
Referring to the rising power demand, he said the country recorded a peak electricity demand of 271 gigawatts on May 21, which was almost fully met. The Minister also praised Sunil Jaglan’s social initiatives, including the ‘Selfie with Daughter’ and ‘Gali Band Ghar Abhiyan’ campaigns, aimed at social awareness and reform.
