PM Modi receives ceremonial welcome in Jakarta; Holds bilateral talks with President Prabowo

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta. Earlier, Prime Minister Modi received a grand ceremonial welcome at the Presidential Palace, marking the beginning of his official engagements in Indonesia. President Prabowo Subianto and Prime Minister Modi introduced the members of their respective delegations to each other, underscoring the spirit of friendship and cooperation between the two countries. Prime Minister Modi also signed the visitors’ book at Istana Merdeka, the Presidential Palace.

Later in the day, the Prime Minister will visit the Kompleks Parlemen Republik Indonesia, highlighting the importance of parliamentary cooperation between the two nations. He will also interact with members of the Indian diaspora at a community event.

Prime Minister Modi arrived in Jakarta yesterday on a three-day State Visit at the invitation of President Prabowo Subianto. In a special gesture, President Prabowo personally received the Prime Minister at the airport. Indonesian Air Force fighter jets escorted the Prime Minister’s aircraft after it entered Indonesian airspace.

Describing the welcome as deeply touching, Prime Minister Modi said he looked forward to his discussions with President Prabowo to impart fresh momentum to the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, established during his 2018 visit.

Indonesia is the first stop of Prime Minister Modi’s three-nation tour, which will also include visits to Australia and New Zealand later this week.
