NHRC issues notice to Rajasthan govt  over alleged atrocities against woman in Banswara

 
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to the Chief Secretary, Government of Rajasthan and the Superintendent of Police, Banswara over a media report claiming a woman was beaten with sticks and paraded after forcibly cutting her hair by her husband and other relatives in Rajasthan’s Banswara on the 1st of this month. The NHRC said that the the report is expected to include the status of the investigation and compensation, if any, paid to the victim. Taking suo motu cognizance, the Commission observed that the contents of the media report, if true, raise serious issues of violation of the victim’s rights to life and dignity.
 
According to the media report, carried on 04th of this month, the matter came to light after a video of the incident surfaced on social media. Reportedly, the woman was subjected to cruelty and inhuman treatment in full public view.
