US President Donald Trump has said Russia and Ukraine have agreed to stop attacking each other’s energy targets, without giving a start date, duration or enforcement details. In a social media post, Trump said Ukraine had agreed not to hit Russian energy targets and Russia had agreed to do likewise. However, the post did not specify which facilities would be covered or whether either side had attached conditions.

The Kremlin has welcomed Trump’s call for Ukraine to halt strikes on Russia’s fuel-producing facilities. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that countries with influence over Ukraine could encourage Kyiv to show greater flexibility, which he said would make a significant contribution to efforts to resolve the conflict. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine is ready to halt strikes on Russian territory if its allies can secure a genuine Russian commitment not to attack Ukraine’s critical infrastructure.
