National Fish Farmers 2nd Day Meet: States ministers present status report on fisheries in their states

On the second day of the national fish farmers day meet in Mahabalipuram today, ministers from several states presented a status report on fisheries in their states.

Ministers from Himalayan region expressed their suggestions to have a regulation and a detailed scheme to benefit from river fishing.

They also wanted more support from the Centre to fish farmers as the fishing activities are hampered in almost three to six months in a year during the monsoon season.

Speaking to Akashvani, Uttarakhand's Fisheries Minister Saurabh Bahuguna said that there are different kinds of fishes in the Himalayan rivers which can be exported as they are not much consumers of the trout and other varieties found in cold waters.
