Nation pays homage to Former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his death anniversary

President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vice President  Jagdeep Dhankhar paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at Sadaiv Atal on his death anniversary today. Home Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Anurag Singh Thakur, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla among other prominent leaders also paid their tributes.

Earlier, in a tweet to Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he joined the 140 crore people of India in paying homage to the remarkable Atal Ji on his Punya Tithi. The Prime Minister added that India benefited greatly from his leadership and played a pivotal role in boosting our nation's progress and in taking it to the 21st century in a wide range of sectors.

In a message on microblogging platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Home Minister Amit Shah said  Atal Ji established the highest standards of politics based on ideology and principles.   He added on one hand he laid the foundation of good governance and on the other hand, he introduced India's potential to the whole world from Pokhran. BJP President JP Nadda said he ushered in a new political era in India and his dedication towards poor welfare will always pave our way.

Mr. Nadda said Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the inspiration of Bharatiya Janata Party workers, a guide of service and good governance. Vajpayee, the country's 10th prime minister, breathed his last on  16TH August   2018 after a prolonged illness. Vajpayee led the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) governments between 1996 to 2004 and was the first member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to become India's Prime Minister. Atal Bihari Vajpayee is the first Prime Minister since Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru to have become Prime Minister of India with two successive mandates. He was elected to the Lok Sabha (House of the People) nine times and to the Rajya Sabha (House of the States) twice. After coming to power in the year 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared December 25 as Good Governance Day in order to honour Vajpayee on his birthday. He was the Bharat Ratna recipient and was also honoured with Padma Vibhushan.
