In Mozambique, voting for General Elections will be held today to elect a new president, parliamentarians, and provincial governors. More than 17 million registered voters will cast their ballots today. Counting will begin immediately after polls close in the evening.

The presidential race features four candidates including Frelimo’s Daniel Chapo, Ossufo Momade of the main opposition party, the Mozambican National Resistance (Renamo), Lutero Simango of the Mozambique Democratic Movement (MDM) and independent candidate Venancio Mondlane.
A total of 36 political parties are participating in the elections for the 250-member House of Assembly and provincial assemblies.
Voting will also occur in nine other countries, including Eswatini, Kenya, Malawi, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Germany, and Portugal, where polling stations will be set up.
International observers, including a 150-member team from the European Union and a 52-member delegation from the Southern African Development Community, will monitor the elections.
