Monsoon has officially set in over Mizoram today, according to the India Meteorological Department, New Delhi. Officials have urged people across the state to remain alert as the rainy season begins.
The IMD said the monsoon has arrived six days earlier than usual this year in Mizoram, other Northeastern states and Kerala.
IMD Aizawl Director Sudheer Kumar Dwivedi said experts had earlier predicted the onset on the 26th of May. He said the arrival of the monsoon is determined through scientific analysis of wind patterns over the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, along with rainfall activity.
Based on these observations, the IMD officially announced the onset of the monsoon.
The IMD has also warned that Mizoram is highly vulnerable to landslides during the rainy season. Residents and vehicle drivers have been advised to remain cautious, especially during heavy rainfall.
