Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Secretary S. Krishnan has stressed the need for a safe, resilient and inclusive internet ecosystem as digital technologies become central to everyday life and economic activity.
Addressing the 23rd Foundation Day celebrations of the National Internet Exchange of India, (NIXI) he said that the focus of digital policy has evolved from expanding internet access to protecting users and securing digital infrastructure. He noted that internet services have become indispensable for communication, banking, business and livelihoods.
Mr. Krishnan emphasised that India can no longer rely on make-do infrastructure and must build reliable and resilient digital networks capable of serving over a billion internet users. He also highlighted the growing need to protect citizens from online fraud and misuse of digital platforms.
The MeitY Secretary said technology must be used to address challenges created by technology itself, and welcomed NIXI’s efforts to deploy innovative solutions aimed at reducing online harms and strengthening user trust.
