Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma laid the foundation stone for over 24 crore rupee redevelopment of Malki Market at Malki Ground in Shillong yesterday. The project is part of a wider initiative to upgrade market infrastructure across Shillong, with projects worth around 130 crore being taken up through the State Budget. Another over 100 crore rupee project is being invested in and around Shillong under the Smart City initiative.
State-funded projects include the Laitumkhrah Shopping Complex, Laban Market, Polo Development and street vendor markets.
Mr Sangma said the investment aims to strengthen economic activity, provide better spaces for trade and create livelihoods. He said the Malki Market allocation is among the highest for any market project in the state, reflecting its potential to emerge as an important economic hub for Malki and surrounding areas.
