MEA Closely Monitors Safety of Indians Amid European Unrest

India has advised its nationals in France, Italy and other parts of Europe to remain vigilant and exercise caution amid protests and unrest in several countries. The External Affairs Ministry said, Indian missions in France, Italy and Belgium are closely monitoring the situation and maintaining regular contact with members of the Indian community to ensure their safety and well-being.

The advisory comes amid large-scale demonstrations across parts of Europe, reportedly fuelled in part by the rising cost of living. Protests in France last week turned violent, with incidents of arson and vandalism reported in several areas.

Addressing the media, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said. Indian nationals had been advised to avoid areas where protests are taking place, exercise due caution while travelling and follow advisories issued by local authorities. He added that the Indian embassies in France and Italy had also issued specific advisories for Indian citizens. The Ministry reiterated that the safety and welfare of Indians abroad remain a priority.

In the French city of Limoges, protesters set fire to a historic town hall, while public property and shops were also targeted. Thousands of demonstrators also took to the streets of Paris on Thursday following a weekend of clashes and widespread looting, marking one of the country’s most serious episodes of unrest in recent years.
