In Maharashtra, Ganeshotsav began today amidst tunes of dhol-tasha and chants of Ganpati Bappa Morya. Governor CP Radhakrishnan, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and the people of Maharashtra welcomed their beloved Ganpati Bappa to their homes with great reverence. Our correspondent reports that the unique festival has also drawn numerous foreign tourists to Mumbai and Pune.
The renowned Ganeshotsav Mandal in Ganesh Galli, Mumbai, is celebrating its 97th year. True to its tradition of social responsibility, the Mandal has organized several social activities this year as well. Devotees including Bollywood celebrities were seen queuing near famous Ganesh mandals in Mumbai, including Lalbaugcha Raja. The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai has made elaborate arrangements for the festival. Security has been tightened in the city and suburbs. BEST has decided to operate 24 special buses from 11pm to 6am, and the Metro has extended its train timings. Ganesha Chaturthi celebration has also started in other districts of the state. Washim district has come up with “one village, one Ganesha” concept in 225 villages. Various mandals across the state have opted for an eco-friendly Ganpati festival.
