Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah today paid tributes to the immortal pioneer of Indian literature, Munshi Premchand, on his birth anniversary.

In a social media post, Mr. Birla said Premchand transformed literature into a powerful instrument of social change through his writings, giving sensitive expression to the struggles, self-respect and hopes of farmers, labourers, women and the common people. He said Premchand’s works strengthened public awareness against social evils, economic disparities and injustice. Mr. Birla added that Premchand’s thoughts and literary works continue to inspire the creation of a just, sensitive and harmonious society.

In a social media post, the Prime Minister said that Premchand, through his timeless works, gave powerful expression to human emotions, making his writings relevant even today. Mr. Modi said Munshi Premchand’s invaluable contribution has also helped bring global recognition to the literary heritage of Kashi, his birthplace and place of work. He added that Premchand’s immortal literature, rooted in reality and social equality, will continue to inspire the people of the country for generations to come.

In a social media post, Mr Shah described Munshi Premchand as the “Emperor of Stories”. He said that Munshi Premchand portrayed events in his literary works with such vividness that they continue to feel alive even today. The Home Minister said that while Munshi Premchand gave voice to society’s pain, inequalities and exploitation through his writings, he also portrayed the sensitivities of children in a simple yet impactful manner through his children’s stories.

Mr Shah added that even today, Munshi Premchand’s literary works remain the finest source of inspiration and guidance for understanding ideal writing.
