Legislative institutions play vital role in ensuring good governance through transparency and accountability: LS Speaker Om Birla

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that times are changing rapidly and people now expect responsive, transparent, and accountable governance, along with responsible public representatives. He said legislative institutions play a vital role in ensuring good governance through transparency and accountability.

Addressing the inaugural session of the ‘Vidhayi Gaurav Yatra’ organised in Jaipur to mark the 75th anniversary of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, Mr. Birla said that legislatures serve as democratic forums where the challenges, aspirations, developments, and concerns of the people are brought before the government. He added that these inputs are invaluable in improving governance.

Mr. Birla also emphasised the importance of maximum attendance by Members of Parliament and MLAs in the House, describing legislatures as the true schools of democracy where great leaders are shaped. He said that the discussions, debates, and deliberations held in Parliament and State Legislatures become a permanent part of history.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said that people elect their representatives with high expectations and closely observe their conduct both inside and outside the House. He said every legislator and political party should introspect on how best to honour the trust reposed in them by the people through their actions and public service.

Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan will attend the valedictory session of the one-day programme.
