Landslides reported across Mizoram following heavy rainfall

Recent heavy rainfall across Mizoram has caused minor damage in several districts, though no casualties or injuries have been reported. According to the State Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Department, landslides have been reported in Aizawl, Champhai, Lawngtlai and Hnahthial districts.

In Aizawl, a house at Bungkawn was evacuated after a roadside landslide threatened the structure. Landslides were also reported near Chhungte on the Aizawl-Champhai highway, at Dilkawn, between Thingfal and Thingkah in Lawngtlai district, and at Tarpho in Hnahthial district, disrupting traffic. Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution as further landslides remain possible.

Debris from a landslide at Sailiamkawn slope near Kawlni Filling Station on the Serchhip-Thenzawl road has yet to be fully cleared due to continuous rainfall and ongoing ground movement.

Meanwhile, roads between Lunglei and Chawngte, and between Thuampui and Vanhne, remain blocked by landslides, while routes to Ṭawipui South, Bualte, Dawn and Thingfal are now open to traffic.
