The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of the snakebite incident involving four girl students at a residential school in Lohardaga district and has sought a detailed report from the Jharkhand Chief Secretary within two weeks.
The Commission has directed the state government to provide details of the treatment being given to the injured students, including a student undergoing treatment at RIMS, Ranchi.
The incident occurred on the night of July 7, when a snake entered the hostel and bit four students sleeping on the ground floor due to which one student died during treatment while the other three are reported to be out of danger. The NHRC observed that, if the reported facts are true, the incident raises serious concerns regarding the violation of the human rights of the students.
