International Archives day is being observed across the country today to raise awareness among public about the importance of records and archives.
This day aims to make the general public, private and public sectors fully conscious of the need for long-term archival preservation and access.
During the 2004 International Congress in Vienna, 2000 attending participants adopted a resolution requesting that the United Nations to designate a specific day to mark the importance and value of archives.
Later in 2007, at the Annual General Meeting of International Council on Archives, it was decided that 9th of June 9th would be celebrated as International Archives Day.
