Karam festival, a vibrant celebration of Jharkhand’s rich tribal culture, nature and the bond between brothers and sisters, is being observed across the state today with traditional fervour and enthusiasm. Special cultural and state-level programmes are being organised across Jharkhand to mark the auspicious occasion.

 

Karam festival, one of the most significant celebrations of Jharkhand’s folk culture and nature worship, is being celebrated across the state today with great enthusiasm. Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar attended the program on the eve of Karam festival organised in Bero, Ranchi, as the chief guest and extended greetings to the people of the state. He also delivered a message on nature conservation.

 

Yesterday, a seminar-cum-cultural programme was organised at Audrey House in Ranchi, where the entire premises came alive with Jharkhand’s cultural spirit to the beats of drums, nagadas and mandar, accompanied by traditional Karam songs. A programme was also organised yesterday evening at the Deekshant Mandap in Morabadi, where a tribal fashion show was the main attraction.

 

Karam festival is considered a symbol of crop protection, respect for nature, and the enduring bond between brothers and sisters. On this occasion, sisters observe a Nirjala fast, praying for the well-being and long life of their brothers. This evening, a sacred branch of the Karam tree will be installed at the akhara, followed by community dances and traditional songs throughout the night.

 

In Ranchi, the state capital, as well as in various parts of the state, arrangements have been made for cleanliness, lighting, drinking water and other essential civic facilities at Karam worship sites and akharas. Administrative officials have also reviewed preparations for the Karam festival and have participated in various events.
