Industry bodies hail India-UK Free Trade Agreement as historic milestone

Industry bodies have described the India-UK Free Trade Agreement as a historic milestone in India’s free trade agreement journey.
 
Secretary General of FICCI, Anant Swarup said that the agreement will go a long way in enhancing India’s participation in global value chains and encouraging innovation-led growth. Mr Swarup congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the operationalisation of the India-UK CETA. He said that by facilitating greater co-operation in innovation, technology, and talent mobility, it will also help enhance the competitiveness of Indian industry. 
 
ASSOCHAM President, Nirmal Kumar Minda said, the agreement marks a historic milestone in India’s FTA journey, bringing together two of the world’s oldest democracies through a comprehensive free trade partnership. He said, under the agreement, 99 per cent of India’s exports to the UK will enjoy duty-free access. Mr Minda said, the agreement is expected to significantly benefit Indian sectors such as textiles, leather, marine products, gems and jewellery, engineering goods, and chemicals. 
 
Chairman of the Trade Promotion Council of India, Mohit Singla, said the operationalisation of the India-UK trade agreement marks a historic milestone in strengthening one of India’s most important economic partnerships. He said, this landmark agreement opens a new chapter of opportunity for Indian exporters by providing enhanced market access, greater predictability, and a level playing field in the UK market.
