India today expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia and condemned the string of attacks in the West Asian nation. Briefing media in New Delhi this afternoon, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal condemned the attack on the Aramco headquarters which took place yesterday, saying India condemns all such attacks on civil infrastructure in the country. He said, such attacks are totally unacceptable and must cease immediately. Mr Jaiswal further stated that India stands in solidarity with the people and government of Saudi Arabia in defence of their sovereignty. He said, India hopes that peace and normalcy return in the region.
Giving an update on the diaspora in Saudi Arabia, Mr Jaiswal said Indian Embassy in Riyadh is in regular touch with Indian community members for their welfare. At the same time, advisories have been issued. He said there have been disruptions in the flight schedule after the attack on the Riyadh international airport. The spokesperson said Indian carriers have been impacted but flight operations of several Saudi airlines are continuing between India and Saudi Arabia.
Replying to a query on India-Iran NSA talks, the spokesperson said NSA Ajit Doval spoke to his Iranian counterpart, Dr Mohsen Rezaei on 12th of October. He said they discussed bilateral issues, the regional situation and international developments. He said the safety and security of Indian seafarers and Indian tankers were also raised during the conversation.
On OHCHR’s recent remarks on the situation in the national capital, Mr Jaiswal said the concerns are unwarranted and unacceptable. He called out OHCHR for their selective approach as they have not reacted in their public positions on protests which are happening or law enforcement actions which are happening in other parts of the world. He cautioned that if they continue on this path, it will lead to loss of faith in multilateralism. He added that it also undermines their credibility as an organisation.
