A unique initiative has been launched to ensure the smooth functioning of postal services in the tribal district of Lahaul-Spiti during winter. When roads are blocked due to heavy snowfall, mail will now be delivered to remote branch post offices via drones. As part of this effort, mail was successfully delivered from Keylong to four branch post offices in Tandi using a drone yesterday; the drone covered an aerial distance of 6.2 kilometres in just 11 minutes.

Ajit Kumar, an official at the Tandi post office, stated that plans are underway to establish a system for delivering mail from Keylong to all associated branches within a single day using drones. The objective of this initiative is to ensure uninterrupted postal service for the public, even amidst heavy snowfall and severe cold. Following a successful launch in Mandi, preparations are now being made to extend this system to 11 remote branches in Lahaul.
