In Maharashtra, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, Palghar, Thane, the Ghats of Nashik and Dhule, while a red alert has been issued for Nandurbar district for today.
Mumbai has been receiving heavy showers since Saturday after a prolonged dry spell. According to official data, the eastern and western suburbs recorded over 120 mm of rainfall between 10 pm on September 12 and 10 am on September 13. BKC recorded the highest rainfall at 147 mm during this period.
The IMD has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and heavy to very heavy, as well as extremely heavy, rainfall at isolated places in Mumbai, Palghar and Thane.
The weather agency has also predicted gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph at isolated places in North Konkan and North Madhya Maharashtra.
