Heavy rain continued in several parts of Maharashtra today, while Mumbai witnessed rain for the fourth consecutive day. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Mumbai for the next three days, with more than 150 mm of rainfall recorded in parts of the city during the last 24 hours. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has kept its emergency teams on alert.

 

Akashvani correspondent reports that with continuous downpour in the metro city, waterlogging was reported from low-lying areas. Central and Harbour railway services were delayed by 10 to 15 minutes. Western Railway services remained normal. 

 

Heavy rain also continued in the Konkan region. In Ratnagiri district, an average of 69 mm of rainfall was recorded during the last 24 hours. Water levels in major rivers have risen, and the Jagbudi River in Khed taluka in Ratnagiri district has reached 4.90 metres, close to its warning level of 5 metres. Authorities are monitoring the situation.

 

Meanwhile, as a precaution during the active monsoon season, the 05 Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has pre-positioned rescue teams across vulnerable districts in Maharashtra and Goa. Teams equipped with flood rescue equipment and trained personnel have been deployed in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Dharashiv, Nagpur and other sensitive locations to ensure a quick response to any rain-related emergencies.
