The government is planning to establish a central police sports and fitness academy to promote sports and fitness in police and paramilitary forces in the country. Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said this after felicitating the Indian Police contingent in New Delhi, who participated in the 20th World Police and Fire Games held in Canada. 

He said the government is giving a lot of emphasis to promote sports at schools and colleges level through Khelo India games. Mr Rai expressed happiness that the Indian Police contingent brought 341 medals in the games. The Minister said the government is taking several steps to promote sports in the country.
